“The Art Base in Basalt will host an opening night reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday for two shows — Ann Morgan’s “Once When I Was You” and Dorothy Raymond’s “The Earth Speaks.” Both artists will give a guided tour of their works at 5:30 p.m.
Morgan is a painter with a tech background. In “Once When I Was You,” she generates digital mashups using AI tools with images that she pulls from past work and social media. She then projects the digital mashups to make large oil paintings on canvas that need to be seen in person to be fully experienced.”

“On the other end of the spectrum, Morgan taps into memories with the aid of AI. She knows employing AI for art is controversial, particularly within the artist community, but she believes it serves as a collective memory for everyone.
‘I’ve gotten a lot of flack — a lot of pushback from artists … (but) that’s what I hope to tap into, is that collective memory,’ she said.”
